Hi ! Learning and teaching this wonderful subject Mathematics for the past 25 years has been intriguing and also mind boggling. It was extremely tough learning Mathematics at each stage of my student years and it's been still tougher teaching Mathematics to students.
Mathematics is not a subject which everyone likes and would learn. Its not easy learning mathematics. Be it elementary school algebra or school geometry , its tough. Children generally don't like Maths as they feel it involves too much thinking.
Many a times I have come across people who say "I hate Maths" , 'I did not like Maths', "I took up another branch because of Maths". Maths the very subject sends a sense of insecurity to nearly 99 % people who I have met. Of course there are some exceptions where people claim to be an expert in the subject and call themselves Mathematician cause they have learnt a few tricks of how to calculate or multiply numbers. Well good enough for such masters of Mathematics.
A recent study was made regarding aptitude for Mathematics. The conclusion was that boys are better than girls at Mathematics . This seems a real joke as Mathematics is not gender defined and is an universal subject. We have a famous Indian lady Mathematician Shakuntala Devi who was also called "Human Computer".

Mathematics is a subject wherein I feel only two rules apply , "Either the subject controls you, or you control the subject" . In about 99 % its the former while the later 1% constitutes what you would call Mathematics teacher ; who has mastered part of this vast and expansive subject.
Very few people know about the lives of great Mathematicians like Karl Friedrich Gauss a German Mathematician called the Prince of Mathematics or about the Bernoulli family from Italy who dwell not only in Maths but also in Physics or about a French Count turned gambler turned Mathematician called Blaise Pascal or about another young Mathematician called Evairseitte Galois who died in duel at age 21 and founded a mysterious branch of Mathematics named after him Galois Theory.
Closer home we have a Srinivas Ramanujam Iyengar whose brilliance was discovered by a British Mathematician Prof Hardy . Till date the mystery of the six Ramanujam notebooks is not cleared. He died young of Tuberculosis (TB) at age 32.
Very few people may have heard about the Fields Medal which is awarded to an outstanding Mathematician every 4 years. There is no Noble prize in the subject of Mathematics cause Sir Alfred Noble did not like mathematics . We also have a Indian origin Mathematician Manjul Bhargava who has won the Field Medal. He says his inspiration has been ancient Indian mathematicians.
Finally we are still struggling to find a definite and authentic proof to the Fermat last page problem . Pierre de Fermat ; a French Mathematician who wrote on the last page of his diary that he has a proof for his famous theorem and that there is not enough space here for him to write.
This blog is dedicated to everyone who loves Mathematics and wants to explore the various aspects of this wonderful subject of which I am part of. I will post articles related to this subject which in all ernest would appeal to you.
